Konami has deployed a new trailer showing off five minutes of footage from the single-player mode in Metal Gear Survive.

The video, which comes courtesy of IGN, features base building, crafting and combat from the spin-off to the adventures of Solid Snake and Big Boss. Well, we say spin-off, it’s more like a mechanics and settings repurposing for some wildly outlandish zombie survival romp.

Reaction to the game has been somewhat negative since the announcement, with a great deal of concern shown for the sharp change in direction for the series. Sure, Metal Gear Solid was already far from orthodox with all its fourth-wall breaking, cyborg ninjas and vampires, but Metal Gear Survive is something else entirely.

Whether it’s good or bad you’ll be able to decide for yourself during the upcoming beta which begins on January 18th. Metal Gear Survive is scheduled for release on February 20th for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Meanwhile, as you probably know, Metal Gear head honcho Hideo Kojima left the developer after The Phantom Pain and has since gone on to set up his own company to start work on the bizarre-looking Death Stranding. Whatever that turns out to be, it will star Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen and feature input from Guillermo Del Toro.
