Netflix have revealed that Godzilla: Monster Planet will be available to view on their service worldwide from 17 January 2018. The film’s official Twitter page posted the news, as did Netflix Japan, who also released a new trailer.

In 2048, as Godzilla and a number of colossal creatures take over the planet, a select few humans board an interstellar emigration vessel, the Aratrum. Its 11.9-lightyear journey will see them travel to the planet Tau-e in the Cetus constellation. However, after 20 years of space travel, they arrive only to find the planet uninhabitable by humans. One young man onboard the Aratrum is Haruo Sakaki, who saw his parents killed by Godzilla when he was only four years old. He has thought of nothing but returning to Earth to defeat Godzilla. The decision is made to return back home, but the Earth they once knew has now become an alien planet. Can mankind take back its native planet and will Haruo get his revenge?

From Polygon Pictures and Toho, Godzilla: Monster Planet opened in Japan in November 2017. Directed by Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita, the film is the first instalment in a trilogy of animated Godzilla films, with the sequel set to open in Japan in May 2018.
