As updates to the Netflix catalogue for February came in, there was an interesting addition, as the live-action Fullmetal Alchemist film was listed as a Netflix Original.

It was initially reported that the film would arrive on Netflix in the US. As news on Netflix’s UK catalogue came in, it appears that it will also be making its way to Netflix in the UK too. The film will hit Netflix on 19 February 2018.

Directed by Fumihiko Sori (of Ping Pong and Vexille), the film adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s manga follows the brothers Edward (played by Ryousuke Yamada) and Alphonse (voice and motion capture by Atomu Mizuishi). After a failed attempt using alchemy to resurrect their dead mother leaves Edward and Alphonse’s bodies severely damaged, they set off to find the Philosopher’s Stone in order to restore themselves.

The film opened to #1 in Japan in December 2017. It is still on release and has so far earned ¥1.12 billion ($10.2 million) at the Japanese box office.
