Almost a year ago to the day, Tomb Raider developers Crystal Dynamics announced that they would be collaborating with Square Enix and Marvel on an original game based on The Avengers. Today, we’ve received our first update on the project, in the form of some new hires at Crystal Dynamics.

Fifteen of the industry’s “top talent” has recently joined the development team, including a few veterans from existing major franchises.

Standout names include Shaun Escayg, who previously served as the creative director and writer of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy at Naughty Dog. He joins Crystal Dynamics as a creative director. The previous director of product development at Visceral Games and long-time EA employee, Stephen Barry, also joins as director of production on The Avengers Project.

“As development progresses, our studio continues to grow,” said Scot Amos, co-head of studio at Crystal Dynamics. “The tremendous progress we’ve made on The Avengers project further drives us toward our goal of crafting something all Marvel fans will be proud of, and will play for years to come. We can’t wait to show you what we mean in the future.”

Though the game is still very much wrapped in secrecy, these new hires go some way to shed some light on what we can expect from the game. Based on their experience, a character-driven and cinematic third-person adventure is likely at the top of the list, though the comments above also suggest an online, living game similar to Destiny too.

More info is promised throughout 2018, so we’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on this one.
