Overwatch head honcho, Jeff Kaplan, has ushered in the new year by discussing a whole host of new content and features coming to the Blizzard shooter in 2018.

First up is the forthcoming launch of the game’s latest map, Blizzard World. Unveiled late last year during Blizzcon, Blizzard World is set in a theme park based on the gaming universes of the mega-developer. Kaplan didn’t announce a specific date, but said the map will launch “very soon”.

A Chinese New Year event is just around the corner too, which will add a range of themed goods and loot boxes to celebrate the Year of the Dog. Kaplan also confirmed that standard loot boxes will be getting a selection of new content “hopefully sometime this month”.

He also briefly mentioned hero 27, who is currently undergoing internal testing. Plans are also well in place for new heroes further down the line.

There’s good news for those who enjoyed the all-too-brief PvE mode Uprising, as it’ll be returning at some point in 2018 too. The team are currently looking at ways they can evolve and improve upon the idea for its second run.

Lastly, 2018 will be an important year for competitive Overwatch with the launch of the Overwatch League in January. Blizzard is also looking at how they can celebrate the game’s anniversary this May.
