Koei Tecmo has released a brand new trailer for the cutesy Gust JRPG Atelier Lydie and Suelle: the Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings, giving us more details on the game’s story and battle system.

If you’ve been following the game already, you’ll know the nineteenth entry in the Atelier series follows the titular alchemist twins as they explore the worlds they see in paintings to collect rare materials and master their craft.

New for the series this time, though, is the ability to synthesise items during combat. The trailer features these new mechanics named Battle Mix and Extra Mix.

The former can enhance a character’s weapon or alter the situation on the battlefield to swing it more in your favour. For example, imbuing your weapon with fire to deal extra damage to ice enemies. Meanwhile, the latter further improves already synthesised items, allowing you to do crazy things such as improve a Bomb to an Enormous Bomb that deals more damage in a wider radius.

Elsewhere, Koei Tecmo has spoken more about the game’s Combination Battle mechanic, which allows you to pair two characters during battle to perform support abilities or special Combination Attacks.

Atelier Lydie and Suelle: the Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings is scheduled for release on March 30th for PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
