Gen Design, the developer of games such as ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, has updated their site with a new image that could be a tease for their next title.

The image (above) shows a young child bathing in a beam of light atop a stone altar. To the side, the fist of some giant creature is creeping out of the darkness. Considering the developer’s history with child protagonists and them interacting with large monsters, it’s not too wild to assume this image is – at least in part – a jumping off point for their next game.

Fumito Ueda, the director and lead developer on Gen Design’s previous titles, told Eurogamer that he usually starts with a single image to represent what he wants to do with a new game. Is this that image, then?

If it is, hopefully the game will be released in a much shorter time window than their previous title, The Last Guardian. That game was infamously in development for almost a decade before it saw release on PS4 in 2016.

Some good news, though, is that we won’t have to wait too long to play a Gen Design title this year. The Shadow of the Colossus remake launches for PS4 on February 7th.
