Syfy drops new Krypton teaser

First announced back in December of 2014, there’s been a slow trickle of information about the new Superman prequel TV series, with the last glimpse all the way back in July.

Set 200 years before Man of Steel (2013) this is the first TV show to be set within the DC Extended Universe, rather than the TV shows like Gotham or Smallville. This is also the first adaptation of Superman not to feature him in any way, there will no mention of Kal-El at all.

The aesthetic is heavily influenced by what we saw in Man of Steel, from the colour scheme of Krypton itself, to the design of the House of El crest, to the overall texture of the costumes and sets.

Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home world, Krypton follows Superman’s paternal grandfather, Seg-El, whose House of El was ostracized and shamed, as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved planet from chaos. According to Variety, “Seg-El is the scion of the once prosperous El family and is blessed with an intuitive brilliance for all things technical. He’s now living in Krypton’s lowest caste after his family was stripped of its rank.”

The pilot will be directed by Colm McCarthy and written by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel) and Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time).

You can expect Krypton to arrive on SyFy in early 2018.
