Back in October, it was revealed that an anime series based on the Professor Layton video games was in development. It has now been reported on Natalie and announced by Level-5 that we can expect a series focusing on Katrielle; Layton’s daughter and lead in the spin-off puzzle game Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy. Level-5 launched an official site for the upcoming series, with the visual of Katrielle in front of a silhouette of Professor Layton.

Based on the spin-off game, the series is titled Layton’s Mystery Detective Agency: Katrielle’s Mystery Files, with Katrielle running the Layton Detective Agency. Initially looking for her missing father, she finds herself solving cases in London along with her assistant Ernest Greeves and her dog Sherl.

Overseeing the series as creative director is Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino. The episodes will be directed by Susumu Mitsunaka (writer and director of Haikyuu!!) at animation studio LIDENFILMS, with Katrielle voiced by Kana Hanazawa.

Layton’s Mystery Detective Agency: Katrielle’s Mystery Files is set to air in Japan in spring 2018.
