December 2017 marks 30 years since Mega Man was first launched on the NES, and during Capcom’s anniversary live stream on Twitch they decided to celebrate by announcing a new game, Mega Man 11.

The latest chapter in the franchise sticks with the side-scrolling action, but sees a change in the visual style with 3D modelled characters on a 2D plane. With some of the previous instalments known for being pretty hard, the new game will include difficulty options. Plus, his sister Roll and trusty companion Rush also return.

The stream also saw an anniversary video, which has now been uploaded to the official Mega Man YouTube channel. The nostalgia trip consists of 8-bit medleys as Mega Man himself revisits all his old games before being transported to Mega Man 11.

Mega Man 10 was released back in 2010, the last Mega Man game that the series creator Keiji Inafune worked on before leaving Capcom. Since then the Blue Bomber has not headlined his own game, but has appeared in other franchises, such as Marvel Vs Capcom and Super Smash Bros.

Capcom also announced that they will be bringing all eight games from the Mega Man X series to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in summer 2018.

Mega Man 11 will be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in late 2018.
