Zack Snyder shows support for petition to release director’s cut of Justice League

A petition that was set up asking that Warner Bros. release Zack Snyder’s director’s cut of Justice League just got a bit of extra support; from director Zack Snyder.

Following the release of Justice League, opening to lower than expected box office and mixed reviews, a number of fans believe that the film currently in cinemas is not Zack Snyder’s vision.

After a family tragedy, Snyder left the production of the film in March, resulting in Warner Bros. bringing in Joss Whedon to finish the film. One of his most notable changes involved replacing composer Junkie XL with Danny Elfman. Plus, some fans have noted that certain scenes spotted in the trailers are not actually in the film. Given the film’s runtime at just two hours, some believe that a longer version of the film is out there.

So a petition was set up by Roberto Mata from San Juan, Puerto Rico, asking that Warner Bros. restore the “original vision that Zack had for the film before his departure,” by releasing a director’s cut of Justice League for home release. A DC Films fan shared the petition on Vero, where Zack Snyder gave it a ‘Like’.

As of writing the petition currently has over 130,000 signatures. However, a ‘Like’ from Snyder does not confirm that a director’s cut exists, or whether it’s even possible.

The film’s cinematographer Fabian Wagner told the Hollywood Reporter that the film was shorter than he expected and said, “I really hope we get to see a director’s cut, which will give us everything that we shot that didn’t make it in.”

However, a Reddit AMA with user LDN_Film who worked on the visual effects for Justice League (and the mods say he is legit), explains, “There won’t be a Snyder cut. There won’t be further vfx work done.”

Responding to a question about a Snyder cut, LDN_Film says:

“The film is found in the edit process, rarely does a director start shooting with the entire film plotted out. Some things work, some things don’t. There is no Snyder cut – obviously he had a rough edit in process hen he left in February, but the reshoots were done 6 months after that, he had no final version of the film. Yes, Zack would’ve probably done things differently to how the film turned out, but thats it. There isn’t a secret Zack version hidden somewhere. It doesn’t exist.”

Given the number of scenes that didn’t make it in the film, there’s always the possibility that they will turn up as deleted scenes or in an extended version when the film reaches Blu-ray. But for the fans hoping to see the ‘original vision’ that Zack Snyder had for the film, they’re unlikely to see it.
