Issue 68 of MyM magazine is out now, featuring superstar cosplayer Yaya Han, a bumper geek gift guide and Peaky Blinders!

Hiya!

“May you live in interesting times,” says the old Chinese curse. Well we don’t know what we’ve done to upset the universe, but we’re mighty glad of the interesting things that come our way. You should see all the red marks from the times we pinch ourselves that they actually pay us to do this! It’s like an essay written in the Predator’s Yautja language on our bodies.

This month our living-the-dream moments include spending three days at MCM London Comic Con, our mouth dragging on the ground at the sheer brilliance of your cosplay (see page eight). Given our love of this practice, we were obviously delighted to be able to speak to the world-famous Yaya Han (page 46) and to have her be the first cosplayer ever to grace our cover! It’s only taken us 68 issues peeps, and we promise it won’t be so long next time.

We also got to indulge our love of merch in a couple of different ways this month. First up, we track down the pressies that are going to have them smiling like the Cheshire cat on Christmas morning in our extensive gift guide (page 26). Then we take a look back at the toys that kickstarted a phenomenon, as we uncover the secret history of the Transformers (page 60).

Movie fans also get a real treat this issue. From the B-Movie posters that promised bucket-loads of sleeze (page 64) and an 80-year-old composer still churning out stone-cold movie score classics (page 19) to a horror icon who has seemingly risen from the dead (page 82), we kick it old school.

Yet the most interesting thing to happen this month is also easily the most exciting. Pop culture event company ReedPOP has acquired MCM Central, the firm behind the MCM Comic Con series of events, and the owner of this very magazine! To paraphrase Kent Brockman, “We, for one, welcome our new overlords…” Since ReedPOP’s existing line-up of super-popular events already includes New York Comic Con, Star Wars Celebration, TwitchCon and Penny Arcade (PAX), we can’t help but think we’ll be running out of places to pinch in the near future!
