Star Wars reimagined as the opening credits to Space: 1999

Well, hey, everyone is jumping on the Star Wars band wagon – with just 19 days left until the Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens, you can’t avoid it. Cookery programs are doing Taste of Tatooine specials, Delicious Dagobah Deserts and so on; Sy Snootles is now a judge on America’s Got Talent and even Dexter Jettster has his own daytime DIY show on NBC. The list is endless.

And who are we to not participate in a little Star Wars-related excitement. So here’s what the Star Wars trailer in 1977 could have looked like if it was inspired by the classic 1975 tv show Space: 1999.

Niels Revers put this up on YouTube nearly two years ago, but it hasn’t been seen by a whole lot of people. Regardless, we love it. We think he’s nailed the rapid edits that match the beat and build excitement, plus he’s included the iconic “this episode” frame that’s especially relevant to how the Star Wars franchise has been divided up. He’s also got the fonts spot on (Neil Bold, Futura and Futura Black).

And while we’re talking about remastered trailers on YouTube…check this one out. This is the epic 1984 sci-fi movie The Last Starfighter with a modern trailer. OK, this doesn’t have anything to do with Star Wars, but it ranks in our top 10 all-time list of favourite things on YouTube.

Tell us in the comments below which particular YouTube mash-ups, fan films or even re-edited trailers you particularly like.

There’s some great fan edits of The Incredibles on YouTube. There’s “If The Incredibles was a Christopher Nolan film” (https://youtu.be/7tQGOYuiB7s) and “The Incredibles in 7 different genres” (https://youtu.be/FqLqJojLUro)
