The Pokémon gaming franchise has already celebrated 20 years, but the anime reaches its own milestone this month with the airing of its 1000th episode.

Hard to believe, but it’s been over 20 years since Ash Ketchum received his Pikachu as the series first aired back in April 1997. Pokémon Sun and Moon is the current sixth series of the anime, based on the Generation VII series of Pokémon games with Ash and Pikachu in the Alola region.

TV Tokyo has revealed that they will broadcast the 1000th episode on 9 November, and to commemorate, they’ll be giving out an assortment of Pokémon related goodies. These include a limited edition New Nintendo 2DS LL Pikachu console, copies of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! On Blu-ray and lots more.

TV Tokyo has also revealed that the episode will feature a special guest, with comedian Sunshine Ikezaki making his voice acting debut as the psychic-type Pokémon Hypno (Sleeper). Whether or not Ikezaki screams, “YAAAAAY” in the episode remains to be seen. The Japanese Pokémon YouTube channel has uploaded a short video with Ikezaki promoting his appearance.

The Japanese Pokémon YouTube channel has also uploaded a preview of the 1000th episode.

Pokémon Centers around Japan are also getting in on the action. From 3 November to 24 December, there will be special gifts, but if you spend over ¥3000 in one of the participating Pokémon Centers then you’ll receive one of three unique clear files.
