Anovos completes Star Trek: Discovery cosplay range with replica phaser

The first port of call if you’re ever considering a Star Trek cosplay – or Battlestar Galactica, or Star Wars – is usually Anovos, and as you’d expect they’re all over Star Trek: Discovery with the Starfleet Captain’s Duty Uniform and the Officer’s Duty Uniform, both for men and women and both available for pre-order. There’s also the Science, Operations, Medical and Command magnetic insignia badges…and now a replica phaser pistol.

The Star Trek: Discovery phaser is a nice blend of the design we saw in Enterprise and the early Captain Pike-era pistol we saw in the TOS episode “The Cage” (S1, E0) and the second pilot “Where No Man Has Gone Before” (S1, E3), with its distinct three barrel interchangeable front, that resembles the early TV studio cameras from the 50s.

Anovos is currently on “wave 3” ordering, which means units will arrive in April of next year. After that, “wave 4” units will arrive in June of next year, with additional waves to subsequently follow in pre-described shipping pattern.

According to their site, it was created using references taken from the original screen-used production assets and produced in the exacting manner that the screen-used pieces were for production. “Stun” and “Kill” settings are selected by side switch on both left and right side, with lit “ring” indicator light at top. (“Stun” is blue; “Kill” is red.) It also features a removable “P1” / cricket phaser from top, with spring-loaded pop-up scope and a removable magnetic battery “clip”.

One of the nicest features of this Discovery phaser is a magazine-style battery clip – ’cause who are we kidding, it feels so much better when you have to slam in another mag, before emptying the clip at your enemy. This battery clip features a really cool battery life indicator up the side, much as you see 9mm rounds in a pistol mag, for instance.

So, how much does this puppy cost? It’s a snip at 500 bucks.
