A remake of John Woo’s influential Hong Kong gangster film A Better Tomorrow is set to open in China in 2018, and the first teaser has been released.
Loosely following the story of the original, a former smuggler is released from prison, hoping to start a new life and get back on good terms with his estranged brother, a police officer. But his past catches up with him.
The teaser is light on dialogue, but there is a touch of action, an explosion, and blood.
The original film saw two sequels and even a Korean remake in 2010. Written and directed by Ding Sheng (Saving Mr. Wu, Police Story: Lockdown), his remake stars Kai Wang, Ma Tianyu, Darren Wang and Li Mincheng.
A Better Tomorrow opens in China on 18 January 2018.
