Ten million players leap into Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode

Wow. People really like Fortnite‘s Battle Royale mode, then? So many, in fact, that Epic’s survival-shooter-turned-PUBG-copycat has raked in ten million players over the last two weeks.

While this is undoubtedly exciting news for Fortnite, there is a sense of uneasiness surrounding the achievement considering the ill words said by Brendan ‘PlayerUnknown’ Greene about the new mode. It’s impossible to deny that Epic is taking advantage of the immense popularity of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds by offering up a similar experience for free.

Nevertheless, while Fortnite appeared to be doing OK as a co-operative survival shooter, the Battle Royale mode has breathed some serious life into the title.

It’s undoubtedly more arcadey – with easier weapon handling and the main game’s building mechanics – but manages to capture the tension trying to survive against a mass of opponents who are all looking to take you out.

You can still try Fortnite Battle Royale for free on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
