Capcom have ‘officially’ announced that Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will be released on 16 January 2018 for PlayStation 4 and PC, with a reveal trailer and special message from executive producer Yoshinori Ono uploaded on the game’s official YouTube channel.

With 2017 celebrating the 30th anniversary of the franchise, the new features in Arcade Edition include Arcade Mode, Extra Battle Mode, a second V-Trigger for each character, Gallery, a completely redesigned User Interface as well as all 28 characters (including those from Season 1 and Season 2).

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition will be available as a standalone release, digitally and physically for PlayStation 4, and a digital download for PC. Owners of the original game will receive the Arcade Edition’s new extras as a free update (but not the DLC characters).

Also uploaded was a message from the game’s executive producer, Yoshinori Ono, introducing the update. Recorded at Times Square in New York (try not to be distracted by the Minions and Smurf in the background) he comments on the additions the game has received since its release, such as the Story Mode (A Shadow Falls), the Capcom Fighters Network and new characters. He then explains what fans can expect, stressing that owners of the original game will receive the Arcade Edition as a free update.

Ono also acknowledges the criticism the game received upon its release (some felt that the game was incomplete). “We understand that the beginning of this journey wasn’t ideal,” says Ono, “We sincerely appreciate everyone who stayed with us and continues to play and enjoy Street Fighter V.”

“Arcade Mode has been the #1 request from our players,” says Ono of the new feature, “so we’re happy to say that it’s coming.” Before leaving, he mentions that there will be more new modes and features that will be announced closer to release.
