You may remember back at San Diego Comic-Con news came of a Stargate reboot to be called Stargate Origins. It will be available on MGM’s own streaming service, Stargate Command and take the form of a digital series, much like Blood & Chrome.
According to Stargate Command, the series is now in production and some new details have been revealed about the show. An ‘All-Access’ pass will need to be purchased in order to watch the series. For $20, you will get…
• first access to Stargate Origins and unlock exclusive content, with an inside view into the production of the new series
• be able to stream the ultimate Stargate library including SG-1, Atlantis, Universe and all 3 movies
• stream Stargate Origins before anyone else
• get behind-the-scenes access to Stargate Origins from the writers’ room to the production to the premiere
• receive an authenticated, members only digital edition of the Stargate Origins pilot script
To begin with, the series will focus on Catherine Langford, daughter of archaeologist Paul Langford, who discovered the Stargate. In the established canon, she was a young girl when the Stargate was first discovered on the Giza Plateau. Ellie Gall will play Catherine and speaking to Stargate Command, she described how much the part meant to her.
“The opportunity to portray this iconic character is once in a lifetime,” said Gall, “I’m thrilled to be a part of the Stargate family and I hope Stargate fans are as equally excited as I am about Catherine Langford’s new adventure.”
Joining Gall is Stargate: Atlantis and Star Trek: Enterprise actor Connor Trinner. Known for playing fan-favorite human/Wraith Michael, he will now be playing Professor Paul Langford, the man whose archaeological dig uncovered the stargate back in 1929.
Rounding out the cast are Salome Azizi, Philip Alexander, Michelle Jubilee Gonzalez, Daniel Rashid, Sarah Navratil, Shvan Aladdin, Tonatiuh Elizarraraz, Derek Chariton, Justin Michael Terry and Lincoln Werner Hoppe. More information on thier roles will be released soon.
In previous iterations of the franchise, Catherine has been played by Elizabeth Hoffman, Nancy McClure, Glynis Davies, Kelly Vint and Viveca Lindfors. According to reports from Variety, the character “will go on an adventure in order to save the Earth from terrifying darkness”.
No mention has been made as to where this fits in with brilliant SG1 story ‘The Torment of Tantalus’ (season 1, episode 11) when Ernest Littlefield – Catherine Langford’s fiancé – went through the gate when it was activated for the first time, that we know of, in 1945 and was subsequently stranded and unable to return home.
