There has always been talk of a fourth Rush Hour film, and now Jackie Chan has revealed that it could actually start filming from next year. But there’s one proviso.

Deadline reported that Chan was on The Cruz Show on Power 106 FM to promote his latest film The Foreigner. When asked about the rumours of a fourth Rush Hour instalment, Chan responded without any hesitation, “next year.”

“For the last seven years, we turned down the script,” said Chan on why it has taken so long, highlighting that it’s not about the money, but about timing. “Yesterday, we just agreed the script. Probably end of this month we’ll have a second draft. Next year, probably start [shooting], I hope, if Chris Tucker agrees.”

Chan also adds that he told Tucker, “Before we get old, please do Rush Hour 4.” So while Chan is onboard, it appears that the decision rests with Tucker. Rush Hour 3 was released in 2007, and since then Tucker has returned to stand-up comedy and become rather selective when it comes to acting, having only starred in two films, Silver Linings Playbook and Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.

Rush Hour was released in 1998 and spawned two sequels, with Brett Ratner directing all three films in the franchise, earning a combined $849 million worldwide.
