A new festival celebrating the best in Hong Kong cinema over its 20 year history is set to take place in London this November.

Organised in partnership with Create Hong Kong, Koenig Film Consultancy Ltd and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade office, the event is set to screen nine films at the Soho Hotel, in London, for free from 17-19 November. The festival boasts three European and UK premieres, and award-winning actor Gordon Lam Ka-tung will be attending the festival to talk about not one, not two, but four of his films.

The festival will open with Wilson Yip’s Paradox, a crime thriller that’s the latest instalment of his much loved S.P.L series and sees a Hong Kong cop search desperately for his missing daughter in Bangkok. What he uncovers is said to be “too deadly to reveal”.  The Brink is the festival’s closing film, meanwhile. An action-packed debut film by Jonathan Li, who acted as assistant director for the Infernal Affairs trilogy, the film follows a cop as he tries to catch a man who smuggles gold into the country using fishing boats.

The critically acclaimed film starring Eric Tsang and Shawn Yue, Mad World, will also be screened at the event. The debut of Wong Chun, the film features powerful performances from its two lead actors who play father and son struggling to connect after the latter returns from hospital. Also showing at the event is the 4K restored version of Fruit Chan’s Made in Hong Kong, the first independent film to emerge from the city after the British handed over rule back to Mainland China.

Ann Hui’s Ordinary Heroes, Johnnie To’s PTU, Alex Law’s Echoes of the Rainbow, Clement Cheng’s Gallants, and Jevons Au and Vicky Wong co-directed thriller Trivisa will all also be screened at the event. Guests can tickets for up to four films, to reserve tickets for the free event, and to find out more information about screening times, please visit their website.
