The lead character looks at the electronic timer surgically embedded on his wrist, counting down just how long he has left to live… because this is much more flashy than having the hero look at a wristwatch.

The trailer for 24 Hours to Live introduces us to Travis Conrad (Ethan Hawke), a former elite soldier grieving over the recent death of his wife and young son. Accepting an assassination job from his old army buddy Jim Morrow (Paul Anderson), Travis is shot and killed by an equally skilled Interpol agent, Lin Bisset (Qing Xu). He then wakes up in an operating room, only to find that his body is now a part of an experimental medical procedure, leaving him with only 24 hours to live.

As well as telling you that it’s from the producers of John Wick, the trailer manages to tick the boxes of all the action staples. As Royal Deluxe’s How We Do It plays in the background, we hear that Travis has lost his wife, his son, he has one last job to do, and he even tells the big bad, “I’m going to come at you with everything I got.” Cue a car being driven through a building, a car being blown up with a rocket launcher (in slow-motion of course), a shot of a bag full of cash and a shotgun, and Travis wielding a gun in each hand. Despite his limited lifespan, he also finds the time to chat with Rutgar Hauer.

The film is from stuntman turned director Brian Smrz and also stars Liam Cunningham, Nathalie Boltt, Tyrone Keogh and Aidan Whytock.

24 Hours to Live is released on video on demand services first on 3 November 2017, with a limited US cinema release on 1 December 2017.
