What an amazing opening to an amazing series. News broke over the weekend at NYCC that Batman: The Animated Series is being re-masted for Blu-ray release in 2018. The series, which debuted in 1992, set the aesthetic and tone for a flotilla of DC cartoons and animated movies that would follow it. It’s a brilliantly clever, artistic cartoon that did wonders for keeping the idea of Batman alive and contains some of the absolute best Batman and DC stories ever told. This is where Mark Hamill’s definitive take on the Joker was born. This is the show that gave us Harley Quinn and Kevin Conroy, the definitive Batman voice actor. The tone and design work is still influential even today and the thing was beautiful as well as great fun. Check out these title cards:

It’s all that gorgeous. All of it. Seriously this is a classic and we’re thrilled to see it making its way to Blu-ray. And, hopefully, 4k Ultra-HD Blu-ray too.
