With a generation hooked on social media, looking to increase their followers, the horror-comedy Tragedy Girls suggests killing people to raise your popularity.

Best friends Sadie (Brianna Hilderbrand) and McKayla (Alexandra Shipp) are on a mission to boost their social media following as amateur crime reporters. Hot on the trail of a deranged local serial killer (Kevin Durand), they surprisingly manage to capture the killer and secretly hold him hostage. Realising that the best way to get the scoop on future victims would be to actually murder people themselves, they force the killer to mentor them. As panic grips their small town, it’s not long before @TragedyGirls becomes an overnight sensation.

Be warned, the trailer does feature a lot of blood. So click play below.

Directed by Tyler MacIntyre, the film also stars Jack Quaid, Josh Hutcherson, Timothy V. Murphy, Nicky Whelan, and Craig Robinson.

Tragedy Girls gained significant buzz after screening at film festivals, such as South by Southwest and Frightfest. It is screening at festivals in the US before it opens there on 20 October 2017. There is currently no UK release date yet.
