We already know that the first annual Thunderbirds Day will take place on 30 September 2017, with 52 Vue Entertainment venues nationwide screen episodes of the old and new shows. But Transport for London is also getting in on the action, transforming its Emirates Air Line cable car terminal in east London with a Tracy Island theme.

The activity will run from Friday 22 September to Sunday 29 October 2017 and will feature large models of Thunderbird 1 and Thunderbird 2, as travellers take off to the show’s iconic countdown in one of the themed cabins amidst the palm trees.

On Thunderbirds Day itself and during the October half-term holiday, visitors will also get the chance to meet Virgil, and have the opportunity to bag exclusive giveaways and mementoes. Emirates Air Line family tickets will be available at the discounted price of £27.50 for two adults and up to three kids.

“Taking off to the legendary 5-4-3-2-1 countdown, visitors can soar over the Thames and immerse themselves into the world of International Rescue, with clips from the show being played during the flight,” said Dave Fisher, TfL’s head of Emirates Air Line.

To complement that activity, The O2 InterContinental London will host a Lady Penelope-themed afternoon tea, from 15 September until 30 October. On the menu will be Tracy Island coconut pineapple verrine, FAB 1 pink bonbon torte and Lady Penelope macarons, as well as two specially created Lady Penelope cocktails.

The Lady Penelope and Parker puppets (as seen recently in the Halifax Savers Are Go TV adverts) and bespoke prints from cult pop art studio Art & Hue will be on display in the Meridian Lounge, while guests will also receive a welcome card with a special message from her ladyship, signed by actress Rosamund Pike (who plays Lady Penelope in CITV’s reboot Thunderbirds Are Go).
