It’s only been live for a day, but the Kickstarter campaign for an officially licensed Resident Evil 2 board game has already shattered its funding goal.

Created by Steamforged Games, who also worked on the Dark Souls board game, Resident Evil 2 – The Board Game has you take on the role of Leon S. Kennedy, Claire Redfield and others to complete a number of 2-4 player co-operative scenarios based on events in the video game.

You’ll explore the game board to collect items and weapons, while also fighting (or most likely running away from) hordes of zombies and other creatures such as zombie dogs, lickers and William Birkin. Each player also draws from the ‘Tension Deck’ at the end of each turn, which can spawn in additional enemies or just generally make things much worse for the survivors.

The game has already received over £300,000 from backers after starting with a goal of £150,000. If you’re interested in supporting the game yourself, a pledge of £70 will get you a copy of the base game, the B-Files Expansion set, alternative Leon S. Kennedy model and all available stretch goals. All the details can be found on the Resident Evil 2 – The Board Game Kickstarter page.

Steamforged Games has also released the following playthrough of the game’s opening scenario. They fudge the rules and dice rolls a few times for the sake of entertainment, but it gives you a solid idea of how the game plays. It doesn’t sell the concept too convincingly but does nail the Resident Evil theming.

Resident Evil 2 – The Board Game will remain on Kickstarter for the next 26 days and is estimated to ship in September 2018.
