Nordic International Film Festival bucks the trend on gender

Eighty-three per cent. That’s the number of films at the third Nordic International Film Festival (NIFF) which have female producers, directors and writers. It’s fitting, then, that New York Women in Film and TV will have an industry panel on the co-work of International Productions at NIFF on 12 October 2017.

If you’re wondering how all those women will get to the Nordic region from New York, it won’t take them very long – despite the name, the NIFF is an American event, and will be held from 12-14 October at Scandinavia House in New York.

The 24 competing films of Nordic and international decent (including six international premieres and eight North American premieres) include the opening night international premiere of Finland’s ‘Man and a Baby’, directed by Marja Pyykkö.

The competition jury includes Bo Svenson (Inglourious Basterds) Brooklyn Decker (Grace and Frankie), Charlotte Munck (Anna Pihl), Hakeem Kae-Kazim (Black Sails), Jacob A Ware (Boardwalk Empire), Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones), Kristin Chenoweth (Glee) and Selenis Leyva (Orange is the New Black).
