Liam Neeson Rides Into Action In The Commuter

The name ‘Liam Neeson‘ evokes certain basic expectations. Face punching, a really good coat, badassery, terse Irish accents telling you about their particular set of skills. From Taken through to A Walk Among The Tombstones, Neeson has established himself as an action star with genuine credibility, even if the movies around him sometimes lack that.

The Commuter looks to change that up in a really interesting way. Here, Neeson plays a resolutely normal man named Michael who has ridden the same commuter train into New York for the last decade. But when another passenger offers him $75,000 to find the one person on the train who doesn’t belong, things spiral out of control.

That really does look like the best bits of Source Code crossed with the best bits of Taken doesn’t it? It’s the latest collaboration between Neeson and director Jaume Collet-Serra (pictured above) too so you know everyone in front and behind the camera knows what they’re doing. Their previous collaborations range from the great (Run All Night) to the fun (Non-Stop) to the kind of there (Unknown) but each has been better than the last so this should be big fun. Especially with Vera Farmiga in the mix too.

The Commuter is out in January. Thanks to Den of Geek for the initial story.
