If you’ve been anywhere near video games in the last few months you’ll no doubt have heard of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The hugely popular survival shooter pits a huge mass of players against each other on a giant island with the aim of being the last one standing. It’s a tense, tactical and hugely rewarding multiplayer game.

Epic Games has clearly seen the massive success of PUBG and is putting its own spin on the formula with a Battle Royale mode in the scavenge and survive build-em-up, Fortnite.

Currently, Fortnite Battle Royale is available to players who have purchased the game in Early Access. From September 26, however, it’ll be available for free to everyone on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Mac.

As you can see, the mode is very similar to PUBG, although it also throws in some of the resource gathering and construction aspects of standard Fortnite.

You can try it out for free from next Tuesday. Fortnite’s “Save the World” PvE campaign remains in paid Early Access.
