At last, Square Enix has set the date when we can return to Ivalice in Final Fantasy XIV – it’s October 10th.

The first major update to the game since the release of Stormblood, Patch 4.1 will introduce the Return to Ivalice 24-man raid to the MMORPG, during which players will venture to Rabanastre and fight a brand new foe designed by Keita Amemiya, creator of the Garo television and film series.

As Ivalice is the setting for Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII, many players are excited to see how these iconic locations will be represented in the MMO.

Elsewhere, Patch 4.1 will add new main scenario quests that continue the game’s story following the conclusion of Stormblood, introduce new Ultimate trials and a new PvP mode titled Rival Wings. Players will now also be able to purchase housing in the Japan-inspired Shirogane region.

Finally, a number of other smaller changes and adjustments were announced for the patch – all of which you can read on the Final Fantasy XIV forums.

Patch 4.1: The Legend Returns marks the latest Final Fantasy XIV content that references or builds upon existing Final Fantasy lore. Previously, the game has featured The Gold Saucer from Final Fantasy VII and the Crystal Tower from Final Fantasy III.
