Following a teaser, Paramount Pictures have now released a full-length trailer for director Alexander Payne’s Downsizing.

Norwegian scientists have made a breakthrough, figuring out how to shrink people to a fraction of their size. Believing this will solve over-population and create cheaper living costs, they build their own colony of tiny people for a number of years before announcing their achievement to the world. Paul (Matt Damon) and his wife Audrey (Kristen Wiig) have been going through some financial difficulties, but feel that they can make the best of their future by shrinking themselves and moving to Leisureland, the new downsized society. However, the procedure is irreversible, and while Paul goes through it with, he soon discovers that even the downsized community has its downsides.

The trailer showcases the benefits of downsizing, with some clever effects (one bottle of Absolut Vodka can satisfy thousands), but not everything is pleasant in paradise (what’s that form Paul has to sign?).

The film also stars Christoph Waltz, Hong Chau, Rolf Lassgård, Jason Sudeikis, Laura Dern and Neil Patrick Harris.

Downsizing has been playing the festival circuit, having screened at the Venice Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival. It is playing at the London Film Festival this October. Downsizing opens in in the US on 22 December 2017. It currently has no UK release date yet.
