Lionsgate UK has released a new featurette for the upcoming action thriller American Assassin. This time we get to hear the author of the Mitch Rapp series, Vince Flynn.

The film follows Mitch (Dylan O’Brien), who seeks revenge after his girlfriend is killed in a terrorist attack. Recruited by the CIA, he is trained under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair are then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Their investigation leads them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative, Ghost (Taylor Kitsch), who is intent on starting a World War in the Middle East.

“I’m not writing fantasy,” says Flynn in the ‘behind the scenes’ featurette, as he explains the research he did in creating the character Mitch Rapp. “I believe that the more it mimics reality, the more believable it becomes.”

Directed by Michael Cuesta, American Assassin opens in the UK on 14 September.
