A rebooted TV series of Tremors was announced back in 2015. It’s now being reported by Deadline that Vincenzo Natali will direct the pilot show for SyFy.

Developed by Universal and Blumhouse Productions, the new TV series is set 25 years after the original film and sees killer Graboid worms returning to wreck havoc on a small town. Written by Andrew Miller (creator of Imaginary Bitches and The Secret Circle), it features the original film’s star, Kevin Bacon, reprising his role as Valentine McKee. “This is the only character I’ve played that I’ve ever thought about revisiting,” said Bacon. “I just got to thinking, ‘Where would this guy end up after 25 years?’”

Natali has helmed sci-fi films such as Cube, Cypher and Splice. More recently he has directed episodes on the shows Hannibal, Orphan Black, Westworld and American Gods.

The original film released in 1990 saw middling box office returns, but became a hit on video, resulting in a cult following and a further five films (Tremors 6 is set for release in January 2018), as well as a short lived TV series that lasted just one season in 2003.
