After it screened out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival, buzz on The Villainess started to build, with many praising the incredible action and stunts. Arrow Films acquired the UK rights and will be giving the film a cinema release this September.

Sook-Hee (Kim Ok-bin) was just a little girl when her training started. After the death of her mentor she is taken in by the National Intelligence Service, who recruit her as an agent to undertake confidential missions. She begins her new life as a hit-woman moonlighting as a theatre actress. But then she is given a new assignment that changes everything.

With shades of La Femme Nikita, the opening first-person action sequence features shootouts, slashes, stabbings and fights, resulting in a high body count that sets the tone for the rest of the film. You can get a taste of the action by checking out the UK trailer.

Directed by Jung Byung-gil, The Villainess arrives in UK cinemas and Digital HD on 15 September, and DVD and Blu-ray on 30 October. If you can’t wait, then you can catch it at Frightfest on 27 August.
