X Japan’s world tour will go ahead this year, the band confirmed at a press conference in Tokyo, despite leader Yoshiki’s recent cervical artificial disk replacement surgery.
Band members Toshi, Pata and Heath also told the press that their concerts in Japan at Osaka-jo Hall (July 11-12) and Yokohama Arena (July 14-17) will now be acoustic shows, as doctors have advised Yoshiki against drumming.
Yoshiki was adamant that the concerts had to go ahead. Heeding his doctor’s advice, he asked how that would be possible without hindering his rehabilitation, and it has been confirmed that he will only be playing the piano.
“I want to move forward. I’d love to be given a chance to do the shows,” Yoshiki said to the press over the phone. He explained that the thought of these concerts helped him through the procedure, and he is looking forward to performing an acoustic show for the first time since 1991.
It is still not clear how long it will take Yoshiki to recover from the surgery, as shortly after the surgery it was difficult for him to walk on his own or breathe normally. But he is working towards full recovery.
