The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a success machine. The worst movies its produced have been serviceable, the best have changed the grammar of how action movies and blockbusters are made. The very best are profoundly ambitious explorations of found family (Guardians Volume 2. Sniffle), PTSD and how we work around trauma (The Iron Man trilogy) and the changing face of nationalist heroism (The Captain America trilogy).

They’re great. But they’re also pretty uniformly white and male. The diversity issues dogging the MCU are, tortuously slowly, beginning to be addressed with Black Panther and Captain Marvel and there are persistent rumors that the incredible Ms Marvel will be showing up in some live action form soon. It’s a good start but it’s just that; a start.,

Top of many people’s lists for the next one to see is Miles Morales. Miles takes over as Ultimate Spider-Man when Peter dies and when that universe is collapsed into our own (LONG story) Miles steps across. He’s great; very much Spider-Man but with a very different viewpoint to Pete. Fans are clamoring for him to show up but, so far, only an animated movie is set to feature the character.

That may be about to change. Because it turns out Spider-Man is a big fan.

At a press junket for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tom Holland has spoken in support of the character.

“I think Miles Morales is a great character, I think it would be fantastic to have an actor of color playing a superhero on screen and I just think it’s going to be something very cool and something very exciting for this universe.”

We’d love to see Miles show up, and it seems, so would the current Peter Parker. Your move, Marvel. Oh and throw Spider-Gwen in too!
