The Librarians comic is on the way

The Librarians is a favorite here at MCM Towers. The show is based on the trilogy of TV movies that began in 2004 and follow Noah Wyle as Flynn Carsen. Chosen by the Library, the repository of all human knowledge, to defend humanity against magic and what we do when we get it, Flynn is one part Doctor Who, one part Indiana Jones. Brilliant, eccentric, erratic.

And kind of lonely.

The TV show, whose fourth season arrives later this year, cleverly uses the ten years between the last movie and its first season as part of its premise. Flynn has been alone, humanity’s last line of defence, for a decade. And now, he needs help.

Colonel Eve Baird is a Special Forces Operator and WMD Specialist who is chosen by the Library to be Flynn’s Guardian. Cassandra Cillian is a brilliant mathemetician who can see and manipulate probabilities in real time thanks to a brain tumour that will one day kill her. Ezekiel Stone is the world’s greatest thief and never tires of telling anyone about it or his genius. Jacob Stone is an oil worker and cowboy who secretly holds a dozen degrees in Art and History and has academic aliases all over the world.

Along with Jenkins, the endlessly laconic, long-suffering supervisor of the Library annex, they fight magic, evil and Flynn’s frequent tendencies to run off and do it himself.

It’s a great show and now, it’s coming to comics.

Will Pfeifer, writer of Aquaman and Rodney Buchemi who’s recently drawn for Uncanny X-Men are the creative team and the plot sounds fantastic:

Way back in the swinging ‘70s, movie producer Sol Schick was the guy behind such cheesy classics as “Quarry: Bigfoot!,” Noah’s Ark: Found at Last!” and “Heavenly Visitors from the Hell Above.” But when he’s murdered – at a film festival! – with a piece of Noah’s Ark! – The Librarians are drawn into the mystery. Can their combination of special skills, obsessive curiosity, and knowledge of forgotten lore figure out who – or what – spelled doom for Schick? And as they delve deeper into his past, is it possible that things are not as they seem and that all his crazy, wild movies…were actually telling the truth?

The Librarians will be published by Dynamite and solicited in next month’s Previews. So, go to your local comic shop and ask them to pre-order it. Because a little knowledge can be an awesome thing.
