Project Cars was a technical marvel for those seeking realism in their racing. While its handling and acceleration modelling took a while to get used to, its huge swathe of disciplines (from karting to supercars and Formula 1-style open wheel racers) more than made up for the game’s utterly unforgiving nature. So it’s genuinely exciting to learn that rallycross will be added to its roster.
Released late in 2017, Project Cars 2 is still a work-in-progress, but in-game footage screened so far brings this action-packed motorsport to life. The fast acceleration of rally cars makes them thrilling enough when they’re fighting side-by-side on dirt and asphalt tracks, before you throw 70ft jumps into the mix.
A technical partnership with Honda’s legendary OMSE rallycross team should guarantee authentic physics in the game, delivering a faithful recreation of the sport. An array of licensed tracks also includes DirtFish and Daytona in the US, Lankebanen in Norway, as well as the track where it all started – Lydden Hill in the UK. Previewed by Anne Clowes
