John Wick’s origin story is on the way from Dynamite Comics

The Raid 1 and 2. Dredd. The Fast and the Furious series. John Wick 1 and 2. We truly do live in a golden age of action cinema.

We’re especially fond of the John Wick movies, for their intensely detailed world building, curiously ritualistic society and the gorgeously grounded, brutal action. So, with John Wick 3 in the scriptwriting stages, you could be forgiven for thinking the beleagured not-even-a-little-retired assassin would be taking a breather.

Yeah.

No.

John doesn’t know how.

Dynamite Comics have announced that they’ll be revealing John’s origin. Better still, they’ll be doing it with a script by Greg Pak who writes the totally awesome The Totally Awesome Hulk and was the writer behind Planet Hulk which is a massive chunk of inspiration for Thor: Ragnarok.

Pak will be hoined on the book by Giovanni Valletta. Scheduled to begin on 6 September, the book will apparently follow a younger John as he’s released from prison and immediately goes to war with the people who put him there. In doing so, he runs up against a strangely organized group of assassins and slowly learns how to master their world. His journey towards becoming the Baba Yaga begins with a string of questions. What are the Three Bills? Who is Calamity? AND WHY CAN WE NOT READ THIS YET?!

As soon as we know more, we’ll pass it on. In the meantime, it warms the cockles of our hearts that John’s in such good hands. Just, do us a favour, chaps. Give him a dog, yeah?

Thanks to THR for the initial story.
