Despicable Me 3 REVIEW

Despicable Me 3 REVIEW

The former supervillain turned family guy returns for another adventure: one which was, of course, preceded by an outing for his little yellow friends (who still steal the limelight here, even in their truncated roles). But does the law of diminishing returns – or at least quality – hold firm for this third outing?

Well, this isn’t actually any different from the first two Despicable Me movies, so it stands to reason that if you enjoyed those, you’ll enjoy this. New on the menu is Gru’s twin brother Dru, as well as a rather fabulous supervillain in the form of a failed child star from the ’80s – every scene he’s in is a joy, although he’s so bendy you do start to question the film’s grounding in reality even more than you did when you first saw those Minions.

The three kids are still adorable, the catchphrases are still there (unicorns remain “so fluffy you could die”) and the CGI is top-notch. True, this world isn’t as groundbreaking as it once was, but at least its ground is firm. Reviewed by Lance Freeman.
