Corey Stoll to play Buzz Aldrin in First Man

Corey Stoll is one of our favorite ‘Oh! It’s the guy from the thing!’ actors. He’s been excellent in everything from Lucky Number Slevin to Ant-Man and has consistently been one of the best things about The Strain.

Now, he’s going to the Moon.

Stoll will play Buzz Aldrin, the Lunar Module pilot on Apollo 11 in First Man. Along with Neil Armstrong, Aldrin was one of the first two men in history to walk on the Moon.

The film is based on First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong, a biography that focused on Armstrong’s extraordinary life during the frantic sprint to get to the Moon. From 1961 to 1969 there was almost unbearable pressure on both NASA in general and the astronauts in particular to get the job done.

The movie will be directed by Damien Chazelle of La La Land and Whiplash with a script from Spotlight writer Josh Singer. Ryan Gosling will play Neil Armstrong and Kyle Chandler, once mentioned in connection with Cable in Deadpool 2, has been cast as Deke Slayton, the Mercury Project astronaut who was grounded with a heart murmur and would make his own unique contribution to history as commander of the Apollo/Soyuz Test Program mission.

In case you can’t tell, WE LOVE THIS STUFF and we’re really excited to see what a group this talented can do with this material. More once we have it, and thanks to Variety for the heads up.
