It’s an announcement that’s been 14 years in the making, but Ubisoft has finally shown off a new look for Beyond Good & Evil 2.
After repeated no shows at gaming’s biggest event – apart from the occasional suggestion that it was still in development – Ubisoft has finally pulled back the curtain on the current state of the game in a fancy new cinematic trailer.
The twist? The long-awaited sequel is set 200 years before the events of the original game – before Jade and before Pey’j, but still in the same multi-cultural and multi-species universe. The game’s creative director, Michel Ancel, has also revealed that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is an online experience, with players travelling across the universe to procedurally-generated planets that can change depending on your actions.
It all sounds mightily ambitious – and far from the focused single-player adventure of the original game – which could explain why it has taken so long for the game to resurface.
According to Ancel, the launch is still far away, so we can only hope Beyond Good & Evil 2 doesn’t disappear into the ether for so long again.
