Annabelle: Creation looks set to do a lot of surprisingly ambitious things. It’s a sequel that’s actually set before the first movie, it’s an almost entirely female cast in a historical horror movie and it’s the official start of The Conjuring Universe. Spinning off from the massively successful The Conjuring franchise, this universe includes Annabelle and upcoming movies focusing on fellow evil creatures The Nun and The Crooked Man.

Whether this will all work isn’t something we’ll know until the movie is out but this trailer certainly looks GREAT. The cast are excellent, we get a good idea of the framing narrative and the scares all look top notch. We’ll be watching (probably from behind our hands) on 11 August.
