Shigeru Miyamoto joined Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, on stage at E3 to officially reveal Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle for Nintendo Switch. Why did everyone look so stunned? Because it’s…it’s XCOM.

Yes, amazingly, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle will see Mario, Luigi, Peach and co teaming up with Rabbid versions of themselves in a quest to save the Mushroom Kingdom in bouts of tactical combat. The announcement revealed how the group will take cover during battles, fire off potshots at foes and even be able to leap off each other to reach more advantageous positions on the battlefield.

Rather than be bogged down in the seriousness and soul-crushing morbidity of an XCOM game, though, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle looks expectantly joyous and fun. There’ll be no weeping over the loss of a veteran soldier here.

After a series of leaks surrounding the title, many were concerned about exactly what the game would turn out to be. Clearly, this is better than anything we could have possibly imagined.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is released for Nintendo Switch on August 29th. Hilariously, XCOM 2 expansion, War of the Chosen, releases the very same day. Which will you be picking up?
