X Japan frontman Yoshiki has successfully completed emergency surgery for cervical artificial disc replacement, his staff have revealed.

Having been diagnosed with “cervical foraminal stenosis” which affected the nerves in his left arm and herniated discs in his spine at the C5-C6 levels, it was deemed necessary for the rock legend to be operated on at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles on 16 May 2017.

The procedure took several hours, but thanks to the work of Dr Neel Anand, Yoshiki is now in stable condition. His doctor has said that he will have difficulty using his voice for a while, but that he should be able to regain his regular voice within a few months. Hospital staff said that in the next six weeks the incision is expected to partially heal and that within the next six months he should be 90 per cent recovered. The recovery time for his nerve pain that runs down his left arm, though, is currently unknown.

Although Yoshiki was expected to remain in hospital for at least a few days after his surgery, he expressed the wish to record a song he had been working on prior to the surgery and, with his doctor’s blessing, was allowed to go to his studio. However, after half an hour in the studio it became clear that his condition was still too extreme for him to start recording and with the help of his staff and an accompanying nurse he was taken home to rest under his physician’s care.

Based on his recovery over the coming months, Yoshiki and his staff hope to make announcements regarding the July “X Japan World Tour 2017 We are X”, the Yoshiki Premium Dinner Shows in August and September, and other X Japan world tour dates. Yoshiki and his staff would like to thank everyone for their support and apologise for any inconvenience caused by his health.

We wish him a speedy recovery! To keep up to date regarding Yoshiki’s recovery, you can visit this site.
