The second season of popular fantasy drama The Shannara Chronicles will air on Spike TV in the US later this year, having debuted on MTV in 2016. The original scripted drama, based on the best-selling fantasy book series by Terry Brooks, is currently being filmed on location in New Zealand.

Season two will consist of 10 one-hour episodes and details of the premiere date and time will be announced in the coming weeks. An encore presentation of season one will begin airing on Spike at 11pm on 29 June 2017, directly following the Spike original series, The Mist.

Season two takes place one year after the events of the first season. The Four Lands are in chaos and the re-emergence of magic has terrified the populace. An organisation called The Crimson is hunting down magic users, using fear and intimidation to sow discord among the races.

Wil (Austin Butler), scarred by a loss and also his separation from Eretria (Ivana Baquero), has turned his back on his magical destiny to become a healer. But when a mysterious woman named Mareth (Malese Jow) saves Wil from a Crimson attack, he is forced to rejoin the fight.

The Shannara Chronicles also stars Manu Bennett (Allanon), Aaron Jakubenko (Ander) and Marcus Vanco (Bandon), along with new cast members Vanessa Morgan (Lyria), Gentry White (Garet), Caroline Chikezie (Queen Tamlin) and Desmond Chiam (General Riga). It was created by Al Gough and Miles Millar.
