EDITOR’S LETTER
There’s a distinctly film-flavoured feel to this edition of MyM, as we continue to scour the globe for the movies you need to know about: both old and new. Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs – believe it if you can, people who saw it at release – is now 25 years old and the closing screening of the Tribeca Film Festival reunited the cast and director. Our American correspondent was in the audience (see page eight) to bring you their thoughts, although he left out the bit about Michael Madsen sounding like Lee Marvin, after 2,500 cigarettes smoked one after the other.

We also have more from the Osaka Asian Film Festival, as MyM got an exclusive interview with cinematographer Katsu Yanagijima (see page 60). Having spent his career making movies with ‘Beat’ Takeshi Kitano, there’s plenty to talk about – including his acting role in Battle Royale. And our triple-hit of festival coverage continues with the Udine Far East Festival (see page 71), where we chat with the major Japanese players and reveal our fave films from that event.

As his latest entry in the Alien film franchise heads to cinema, we also present an in-depth guide to the amazing work of Sir Ridley Scott (see page 64). Meanwhile, anime fans finally get to hear Michael Dudok de Wit (see page 48) talk about his Studio Ghibli-produced movie, The Red Turtle, years after he was plucked by Toshio Suzuki and Isao Takahata to create it.
