Legion was both very good and very bad news for superhero TV shows. It was very good because it was amazing and opened the door to all sorts of other takes on the subject matter. It was very bad news because it was so high quality, so weird and unique, that Legion is the textbook definition of a hard act to follow.
Nonetheless, Fox is doing just that with The Gifted. The series’ initial premise was that of a family with mutant children on the run. As you’ll see from the trailer, there are a couple of extra twists to that now.
We’re cautiously optimistic about this one. Amy Acker and Stephen Moyer don’t know how to turn in bad work and they’re only two of a remarkably talented cast. Jamie Chung, playing Blink in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it (sorry, not really) spot in the trailer is always watchable – as is Natalie Alyn Lynd, who was last seen in these parts in iZombie and is best known for managing to do something fun with Silver St. Cloud on Gotham last season. Plus Blink! Polaris! Thunderbird! Beloved and frequently overlooked X-Men characters! Your time is at hand!
There’s no official air date for The Gifted yet but as soon as we have one, we’ll let you know.
