Checking Out The Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 Soundtrack Listing

We’re huge soundtracks fans here at MyM. Orchestral soundtracks can make or break a movie and the ranks of our mp3 collection heave (or do the digital equivalent of heaving) with some of the all-time greats.

Song-based soundtracks are a trickier proposition. Done wrong – like that Avengers album about which we don’t really speak – they’re loose collections of songs stuck behind a movie poster. Done right? They can turn a film into an event.

Admit it, you’re all humming “Come And Get Your Love” now aren’t you? We are.

Or perhaps now it’s “Fox On The Run” by Sweet because Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 2’s soundtrack listening has been announced! Whooooooo!

Here’s the list in full.

While we don’t know specifics, here are the standout tracks for us.

“Fox On The Run” was used in the first trailer and is the exact kind of raucous stompy glam rock these movies need.

“Bring It On Home To Me” by Sam Cooke is one of the most romantic songs ever written. It’s also crumpled and tired and funny and yeah we’re pretty certain this one is all Quill.

Then there’s Electric Light Orchestra’s “Mr Blue Sky”, a mini epic of a song that’s been searching for a sci-fi soundtrack to home it for years… Can we dare hope there’ll be a sequence choreographed to its entire five-minute running time?

Other standouts include Cheap Trick’s “Surrender” (ROCK POWAH!) and previous Charlie’s Angels soundtrack artist Looking Glass with “Brandy, You’re A Fine Girl”. Oh and… and… David Hasselhoff, along with the Sneepers doing something called “Guardians Inferno”. We’re… uh… yeah.

However the other interesting one on there is “Father And Son” by Yusuf Islam. The artist formerly known as Cat Stevens specialises in this kind of heart rending dissection of the father/son dynamic. Or to put it another way, this is either the scene where Peter and dad reconcile or where Dad dies.

Let’s maybe not do that? If we can? Quill’s been through enough.

Parental grief aside (and aren’t you hoping Dad hands him Volume 3? We are), this is a great set of classic and gleefully weird songs. We can’t wait to hear them in context.

Now, one more time: COME AND GET YO LOOOOOOOOVE!

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 opens in the UK on 28 April.
