Let’s, like the man once sung, get down to business. Here’s the trailer:

Right then, that’s a bit intense isn’t it? As others have pointed out, Game of Thrones is the only TV show in history to get people excited with footage of characters sitting down. But it works, and the interesting thing about this trailer (Aside from the super welcome shout out to 1990s pop geniuses James, whose ‘Sit Down’ scores the trailer) is exactly where those three thrones. Or perhaps, two thrones and a chair, are…

Let’s get the obvious one out of the way first. Cersei is back where she always wants to be; the Iron Throne. The horrific things Cersei has done, and endured, to stay there show just how fanatical she is at this point. As a result, a lot of people are speculating that her icy breath, and the literally chilling pullback at the end, suggest she’s going to ally herself with the White Walkers. We are…not quite as sure. We think it’s as likely she’ll opportunistically use her opponents’ distraction with them to secure her own dwindling power base.

Dani next, who as fans have already pointed out, is at the Dragonstone. Formerly the home of Stannis Baratheon, her presence there sends several different messages. Firstly, it’s the perfect place for The Mother Of Dragons to base her campaign out of. Secondly, it’s a clear signal to Cersei that she’s coming for the Iron Throne. After all, the Dragonstone is in Blackwater Bay, which puts her disturbingly close to the Red Keep and King’s Landing. Most importantly, the Dragonstone is the ancestral home of House Targaryen and that sends a very clear, terrifying message; Mama’s home. And she’s just getting started.

Finally, Jon who has, at first glance, the least impressive setting. There’s no real throne, no real sense of the brutal majesty of the Iron Throne or the windswept strength of the Dragonstone. It’s just Jon Snow, with the weight of the world on his shoulders, in a hall, as usual. But then you stop and think about it and realize the only place he can really be;

Winterfell.

The Starks, like the Targaryens, have come home. And, like the Targaryens, that’s very, very bad news for their enemies.

Two Queens. Two Kings. Two wars. Eight episodes and then one last season. Game of Thrones is back 17 July. You’re going to want to sit down for this one.
